I submitted The Howling Heart into the 2010 Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award contest. I did it just for kicks. I don’t expect to win, but maybe someone will take notice and like the story. Since I don’t get many reviews on FictionPress (I don’t know why), I think the story could use more exposure. Publishers Weekly will be reviewing the manuscripts that go onto the semi-finalists round in April. If anyone has a finished manuscript, I encourage you to enter too. Hey, it can’t hurt.
The 2010 Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award: Submit Your Novel
Amazon.com, along with Penguin Group (USA) and CreateSpace, is pleased to announce the third annual Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award, the international competition seeking the next popular novel. For the first time, the competition will award two grand prizes: one for General Fiction and one for Young Adult Fiction. The 2010 competition is open to unpublished and previously self-published novels waiting to be discovered. Each winner will receive a publishing contract with Penguin, which includes a $15,000 advance.

That’s great that you submitted your story The Howling Heart into the 2010 Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award contest. Maybe you should have entered A Rose to the Fallen instead to maybe get it more exposure.

Hi Phoebe! I tried, but I couldn’t get my manuscript down to 150,000 words or less and still keep the essence of the story. The Howling Heart had a much lower word count. I didn’t even hit 100K. It’s more than half the length of A Rose to the Fallen.
